Woman visits police station to obtain document: Arrested for living in north Cyprus illegally
A woman who approached the police in Lefkosa on Friday to obtain a document was found to have been residing in the country without permission and was arrested.
The individual, identified only as R.B., was arrested on the afternoon of Friday December 12 when she visited the Immigration Branch of the Lefkosia Police Department to request an entry-exit record.
She was arrested after it was determined that she has been living in north Cyprus without a resident permit.
She was brought to court on Saturday charged with “Illegal Residency”.
Police told the court that during the immigration check, it was revealed that the suspect had obtained a work permit valid from March 28, 2024, to March 28, 2025. However, the work permit had been canceled on August 31, 2024, and since then, the suspect had been staying in the country illegally for 134 days.
The officer added that the suspect was arrested the same day for being caught in the act and that the investigation is ongoing.
The officer requested a 3-day detention period for the suspect.
