Woman caught with duty-free products continued to be held in detention

A Nigerian woman who was arrested in Lefkosia for the "possession of goods without customs clearance," was brought to court again today.

The individual, MTA was arrested on November 21 along with a Turkish Cypriot woman AD., who is the manager of the business during an inspection conducted by the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Department teams at a market in Bandabulya.

While, A.D. was released on bail, MTA was held in police custody and continued to appear in court.

Police officer who spoke in court on Saturday December 7 said the following items were found in her possession without customs clearance:

  • 110 various brands of personal care products,
  • 15 electronic personal care devices,
  • 13 bottles of unknown-brand brown liquid without customs clearance,
  • 5 pieces of tonkat,
  • 4 packets of royal powder,
  • 4 jars of drip syrup,
  • 1 spray bottle,
  • 1 jar of breast powder,
  • 1 bottle containing breast powder,
  • 5 bottles labeled "rave me,"
  • 15 pink jars containing pills,
  • 12 jars containing pills,
  • 22 jars containing white powder,
  • 7 jars containing white chalk-like material.

All of these items were seized as evidence.

The police stated that the suspect had been brought to court three times and that a total of 14 days of additional detention orders had been issued. The officer added that the analysis of the seized materials was not yet complete and that an unidentified substance, not previously encountered, had been detected among the items. They requested an additional seven days to finalize the analysis results.

The judge ordered the suspect to remain in custody for another seven days.
