Two sent to prison for drugs: Escaped suspect still not found

Two individuals who were facing charges for drug crime were sent to prison for two months until their trial.

The suspects, KEE and TIS were arrested on November 24 on charges of “possession, procurement, and distribution of narcotic substances.” 

In court on Friday December 6, police said on November 24, 2024, the Anti-Crime Department received information about a potential drug transaction in the Kermiya area and initiated surveillance. 

Police stated that KEE arrived at the scene holding a black bag but, upon noticing the police, threw the bag onto the road and fled.

The bag was recovered and examined, revealing 60 grams of cannabis prepared for sale in 62 foil wraps, an additional 28 grams of cannabis, 4 cannabis-laced cigarettes, and a precision scale. Despite extensive searches on the night of the operation, the fleeing suspect could not be found.

Following a review of surveillance footage, police discovered that KEE arrived at the scene in a vehicle, belonging to TIS. A search of TIS's residence in Küçük Kaymaklı uncovered 40 grams of cannabis, leading to his arrest.

The police reported that TIS confessed to obtaining the drugs from KEE. Subsequently, KEE was located and arrested at his residence in the Kızılbaş area.

The suspects were brought to court three times, resulting in a total of 12 days of additional detention. The investigation regarding matters the suspects could influence has been completed, although both defendants have denied the charges.

he officer noted that KEE has pending charges for drug-related offenses from August 18, 2024, in Lefkosia and may flee trial if released. TIS was also revealed to be living in the country illegally. Therefore, the officer requested that both suspects be remanded in custody until trial.

After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered that both suspects be sent to prison for no longer than two months.
