Two arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit
Two individuals who were found to have been in north Cyprus without a residence permit were arrested and detained by Turkish Cypriot police.
The individuals, UCA, a Nigerian and TTD, a Zimbabwean were identified and arrested by the police during a patrol conducted at around 9:30 PM on Saturday December 14, 2024, on Bülent Ecevit Street in Haspolat.
They were brought to court on Sunday.
Police told the court that UCA, a resident of Haspolat, was stopped for an immigration check. It was determined that he had been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without a residence permit for 1,121 days since November 19, 2021.
The police also explained that during an immigration check conducted on TTD, at around 6:45 PM at the Lefkosia Criminal Division, it was found that TTD had been residing in the TRNC without a permit for a total of 988 days since April 1, 2022.
Stating that the investigation had just begun, the police requested that the suspects be held in custody for three days.
