TRNC authorities to request for health reports from drivers above a certain age: Minister of Transport
The TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı wants the government to introduce a regulation that will request a health report from drivers over one year of age.
In the aftermath of a fatal traffic accident in Girne at the weekend that claimed the life of a Moroccon student, the TRNC Minister of Public Works and Transport Erhan Arıklı announced a new policy regarding health reports for drivers.
Speaking on the program "Damla Dabis ile Saat 12.00" on Kanal T on Monday Dec. 2, Arıklı stated that they will require drivers above a certain age to provide health reports.
Highlighting the need for legal regulations, Arıklı said, “There may be a slowdown in reflexes in people above a certain age. Without checking the condition of such individuals, incidents like last night’s could occur again.”
Arıklı acknowledged the existence of problematic roads but noted the state’s limited resources. He remarked, “People should be more cautious on bad roads, but they are not. In one video, I saw people weaving through traffic and joking with each other on the main road.”
The minister also emphasized that following the parliamentary budget discussions, a meeting will be held with municipalities to address traffic-related authorities and responsibilities.
