TRNC authorities begin deportation process for individual who lived in the country without permit
Deportation procedures against an individual who was arrested after being found to have lived in the country without permit for 377 days, has begun as the suspect will remain in custody for another 7 days as part of the completion of deportation procedures.
The individual, AC, a Zimbabwean student in north Cyprus who was found to be living illegally in the country and subsequently detained, was brought back to court today Friday December 13.
Police officer stated that during a patrol conducted by the Crime Prevention Unit on Şehit Ahmet Russo Street in Lefkosia at around 4:00 PM on December 10, 2024, the suspect, a resident of Lefkosa, was found during an immigration check to have entered the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on October 11, 2021, with a student permit and had been residing without a permit for 377 days since November 29, 2023.
The officer explained to the court that the suspect was caught red-handed and arrested.
The officer further noted that the investigation is ongoing, the deportation process for the suspect has been initiated, and the necessary correspondence has been conducted. He requested that the suspect remain in custody for an additional 7 days to complete the deportation process.
The judge after reviewing the testimony, ordered the suspect to be detained for 7 more days.
