Two individuals who were arrested after drugs were found ready for sale during a search of their residences in Lefkosa were remanded in custody on Friday.

The suspects GTMA and AAKF who are both Sudanese students in north Cyprus were arrested on December 4 in Lefkosa after drugs ready for sale were found during a search of their residence.

They were brought to court on Friday on charges of “illegal possession, procurement, and sale of narcotic substances.”

Police in a court testimony stated that on December 4, 2024, they received information that the suspect GTMA was selling drugs. The police began surveillance around the suspect's residence that same day. Shortly after, the suspect was apprehended near his home. The police also found ATKF at the residence.

During a search of the house, they discovered 17 grams of cannabis believed to be ready for sale, a precision scale suspected to contain drug residues, and 2,000 TL in cash thought to have been obtained from drug sales.

In the suspect ATKF’s bedroom, an additional 3 grams of cannabis and a grinder were found and seized. Both suspects were taken into custody.

The officer explained that GTMA admitted to purchasing 25 grams of drugs for €200 from two individuals currently being sought. He confessed to weighing and giving 4 grams to ATKF, consuming some himself, and intending to sell the rest.

Similarly, ATKF admitted to receiving 4 grams of drugs from GTMA and consuming part of it. Both suspects gave voluntary statements confessing their crimes.

The officer noted that the suspects had been brought before the court and initially placed in custody for one day. During this time, the seized drugs were sent for analysis, and statements were taken from two individuals.

He emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with more statements to be taken and two other suspects being sought. Surveillance footage will also be reviewed, and further analysis of the drugs is awaited. Additionally, GTMA’s phone, used in the drug procurement, will be sent for data examination. The officer requested an additional six days of detention.
