Student visits police to seek help to return to his country: Arrested for illegal residency in north Cyprus
A young foreign student who approached the police directorate in Lefkosa north Cyprus to help return to hos country is arrested for living in the country without a resident permit.
The individual named only as B.F, a Sudanese student in north Cyprus at around 4:30 pm on Tuesday December 3 visited the police directorate in Lefkosa to seek help to return to his country.
During the process, it was determined that he has been living in north Cyprus without a resident permit. He was arrested by the police and brought to court on Wednesday charged with "residing in north Cyprus without a permit".
Testifying in court, police prosecutor said upon immigration checks, it was determined that the suspect had been residing in the country without a permit for 371 days, since November 29, 2023.
The officer explained that the suspect was arrested on the spot, and an investigation was initiated.
The officer also noted that research would be conducted with the Ministry of the Interior regarding the suspect's status in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and requested a two-day extension of his detention for the investigation.
