Premier League hearing on Manchester City charges concludes
The hearing into Manchester City’s alleged financial rule breaches has concluded, with a verdict expected in the coming months after both sides presented closing arguments on Friday, sources familiar with the matter told the Daily Mail.
The Premier League champions face 130 charges spanning a 14-year period, including allegations of inaccurate financial reporting from 2009-2018 and failure to cooperate with investigators. City strongly deny any wrongdoing.
The proceedings, which began September 16 at London’s International Dispute Resolution Centre, could result in significant penalties including fines, points deductions, or relegation if the club is found guilty of serious breaches.
However, any initial verdict is likely to face appeals from both sides, potentially delaying a final decision until the end of next season.
The charges include allegations of incomplete reporting of former manager Roberto Mancini’s compensation and player payments between 2010-2016.
The investigation, prompted by leaked documents in German media, has generated substantial legal costs for the Premier League, causing concern among member clubs.
Both sides were represented by prominent legal figures, with Adam Lewis KC appearing for the Premier League and Lord Pannick leading City’s defense.
