Greek Cypriot teacher convicted of child sexual abuse two decades after offence
A former teacher in south Cyprus has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison
after admitting to sexually abusing a minor approximately 20 years ago.
The case was tried in a closed-door proceeding before the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia in 2021.
Recently, the accused teacher changed his plea and admitted to charges of child sexual abuse under the 2000 Anti-Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Minors Law.
Sources indicate that the abuse was not an isolated incident. The court sentenced the former teacher to prison on 13 December, sending a strong message about accountability for historical sexual offences.
