Factory explosion in Türkiye kills 12 people
Twelve people died and four others suffered injuries in a devastating explosion that ripped through an explosives factory in northwest Turkey on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the village of Karesi, a district in the province of Balıkesir. The factory, which opened its doors in 2014, specialized in manufacturing munitions for light weapons, according to local media sources.
Balıkesir Governor İsmail Ustaoğlu addressed the tragedy, ruling out sabotage as the cause of the explosion. "Initial investigations suggest this was a tragic accident," Ustaoğlu told reporters at the scene.
Emergency services rushed to the site. The condition of the injured individuals remains unclear at this time.
