An intoxicated man stabbed a person sitting in a car in front of his building in an incident that occurred in Lefkosa on Sunday evening.
The suspect, İbrahim Yağmur, a Turkish national was arrested and brought to court on Sunday on charges of "Assault, Unlawful Knife Possession, Carrying a Knife While Drunk, Drunkenness, and causing Public Disturbance".
Police in a court testimony stated that the suspect, İbrahim Yağmur, at around 1:00 AM on December 1, 2024, in Müftü Hilmi Street, a public area in Lefkosa, was intoxicated when he disturbed a local resident, Y.E.B., by loudly saying "What's going on?" to him while he was sitting in a car in front of the suspect's house.
The suspect then grabbed Y.E.B. by the throat with his right hand and assaulted him. He proceeded to stab the inner side of Y.E.B.'s left arm with an approximately 15 cm-long unidentified knife, causing a 2 cm wound, and the outer side of his left forearm, causing an 8 cm deep skin and subcutaneous cut.
The police stated in court that Y.E.B. was discharged from the Emergency Department of the State Hospital the same day following treatment and that his condition was not life-threatening.
The police reported that when suspect İbrahim Yağmur was arrested and questioned, he provided a voluntary statement, but it needs to be verified. They also mentioned that security camera footage from the area would be reviewed and requested that the suspect be held in custody for three days for further investigation.
Evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for three days to ensure the smooth progress of the investigation.
