Woman in court for stealing from her employer in Kyrenia

A woman working as a cashier in a business opersting in Kyrenia north Cyprus was found to have been stealing from her employer.

The suspect, TÖ, 22, a Turkish Cypriot was arrested on Saturday November 9 for allegedly stealing from the store where she works in Kyrenia. She was brought to the Kyrenia district court on Sunday charged with theft.

Police in a court statement said the suspect who works as a cashier in a clothing store named “Terranova” operating in Kyrenia committed fraud between the period of October 25, 2024 and November 09, 2024.

Police said after selling products to customers, she will cancel the sale from the cash register after the customers left the store, showing that the products in question were taken back as a return, and taking 6,364.45 TL in cash from the cash register according to the first determined amount.

The police stated that the suspect was arrested in accordance with the court order upon the complaint and, that 8,800 TL was found in her possession which is believed to have been stolen.

The police stated that the investigation into the matter had just begun, that there were statements to be taken, camera footage to be examined, signs to be sought, and that it was highly probable that the amount stolen would increase. 

The police requested that the suspect be detained at the police station for 3 days for investigation purposes.
