Woman detained in north Cyprus for pouring hot water on her husband’s scrotum for cheating

The woman who was arrested last week for pouring boiling water on her husband’s scrotum appeared in court in Iskele for the second time on Monday, while her husband remains in hospital.

Speaking in court on Monday, police representative said the woman, who is 34 years old and charged with causing “serious injury, serious damage, and serious assault” poured boiling water on her husband’s scrotum after discovering that he was cheating on her.

Police said the woman had boiled the water in a kettle in their house located in the village of Ziyamet in Karpas peninsula at around 8.30am on October 31, before entering their shared bedroom with the kettle and poured the water onto the scrotum of her husband, who was lying on his back.

Police said she had done so “with the intention of harming his genitals so he would not cheat again”.

Her husband, aged 35, suffered second-degree burns on his scrotum and in the surrounding area.
Bugracan then added that the woman was “identified at the scene of the crime and arrested”.

He said the kettle had been taken as evidence and that the woman had confessed to her crime, though noted that it would be “highly probable that witness statements may be affected” if she were released on bail.

The police requested that she be remanded in custody for four days so as to allow the police’s investigation to be “conducted safely”.
