Woman accused of stealing 1.5 million TL from her place of work
A woman accused of stealing 1.5 million TL from a workplace where she worked as a store and warehouse manager in Lefkosia, has been arrested.
The suspect, D.K, a Turkish Cypriot woman. arrested for the crimes of “theft by an employee” and “document falsification,” was brought before the Lefkosia District Court this morning.
During the hearing in court police prosecutor said between March and November 2024, the suspect embezzled a total of 20,304 USD and 21,257 Euros worth of hardware and plumbing materials from Cahit Necipoğlu, a company operating in Lefkosia where the suspect was employed.
The police explained that the suspect falsely documented the transfer of these goods from the Lefkosia warehouse to the Demirhan warehouse but did not actually carry out the transfer, instead stealing the goods.
“The investigation against the suspect has just begun. Research into the system belonging to Cahit Necipoğlu company is ongoing, and it is highly likely that the amount embezzled will increase”, the police stated and noted that many statements still need to be taken regarding the matter.
He emphasized that if the suspect were released, she might interfere with the statements to be taken and the evidence being sought, requesting that the suspect remain in police custody for two more days.
The suspect’s lawyer, did not object to the custody request but posed questions to the investigating officer.
The court approved the request.
