Violence affects half of Cyprus women, study finds
Nearly half of women in Cyprus have experienced abuse from partners, with violence rates significantly higher than EU averages, according to data by Eurostat, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).
The EU-wide survey reveals 44.5% of Cypriot women have suffered psychological, physical, or sexual violence from partners, compared to the EU average of 31.8%.
Additionally, 39.9% report workplace sexual harassment, exceeding the EU mean of 30.8%.
The study shows 36.1% of Cypriot women have experienced physical violence, threats, or sexual violence in their lifetime – notably higher than the EU average of 30.7%.
Partner violence affects 30% of women, nearly double the EU rate of 17.7%.
