U.S. warns Iran against further attacks on Israel amid rising tensions

The United States recently issued a warning to Iran, urging it to avoid launching additional attacks on Israel, according to a report by Axios citing both a U.S. official and a former Israeli official.

Washington reportedly conveyed to Tehran that it might not be able to restrain Israel should further aggression occur.

“We informed the Iranians that we may not be able to hold back Israel, nor guarantee that the next Israeli response will be as targeted as the last,” a U.S. official stated. The official emphasized that the message was delivered directly to Iran, a rare disclosure, as direct communications of this nature are seldom made public. The Israeli former official noted that the message was relayed from Washington to Tehran via Swiss intermediaries.

Axios also reported that Israeli intelligence has indicated possible Iranian plans to strike Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days, potentially ahead of the U.S. presidential elections on November 5.

Esmaeil Kowsari, a member of Iran’s parliamentary national security committee, stated on Saturday that Iran’s Security Council has agreed on the need for a response but has yet to finalize details on timing and strategy. He added that any forthcoming attack would be coordinated with regional “resistance” groups and is expected to be more intense than the October 1 assault, during which Iran launched approximately 180 ballistic missiles.
