Two individuals arrested for drugs in in Gönyeli

Two individuals who were found with drugs in Gönyeli will be detained for 3 days as part of investigation into the matter.

The suspects, A.M, a Zimbabwean and O.S.N, a Nigerian were arrested in in Gönyeli on Monday November 4. They were brought to court on Wednesday November, 6 on charges of “illegal drug possession and purchase”.

 Police in a court statement said at around 6:30 pm on November 4, the suspect A,M, who was detected in a vehicle by police team from the Crime Prevention Branch of the Lefkosa Police Department, got out of the vehicle upon seeing the police and tried to escape but was arrested with force while throwing the bag he had on him behind an apartment building.

During a search of the bag thrown by the suspect, they found approximately 4 grams of what is believed to be narcotics substance which was taken as evidence. 

Police also reported that the suspect, OSN who was in the vehicle and is thought to be connected to the incident, was also arrested.

The police stated that the investigation into the matter was new and that the statements given by the suspects needed to be confirmed and refuted. 

They also stated that there was a pending warrant of arrest for the suspect A.M who is wanted for another matter and that an investigation had been launched in this direction as well. 

Police requested that the suspects be detained for 3 days for the purpose of investigation.

Speaking on the police testimony, the lawyer of the suspect OSN claimed that his client had no connection to the crime and that the other suspect had picked him up because he was hitchhiking.
