Tavern owner narrowly escape death as vehicle crashed into tavern

A tavern owner narrowly escaped death in an accident that took place last night at Bizim Meyhane, one of Gönyeli’s popular spots.

A vehicle crashed into the wall of Bizim Meyhane, just missing Emirali Tatlıdil, the owner, who was seated outside at the time.

Tatlıdil, the owner of our tavern and a regular carer of street animals, barely escaped with his life.

Having only been driving for three months, the driver claimed there was a technical fault with the steering. Tatlıdil, recounting the event on social media, said he narrowly escaped when the car struck the wall: “I came so close to not surviving. Just a few more feet and I’d have been crushed. The police only asked if I had a complaint about property damage.”

He added, “Please, review this person’s driving licence. Today, I was spared, but next time, someone might lose their life. People who haven’t experienced this don’t understand, but today, I’m grateful to still be here. I have a lot to say, but I’m simply glad to be alive. Maybe I’m here because of the kindness I’ve shown to those animals I care for. I’m both angry and deeply saddened.”

It was reported that the investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Tatlıdil’s full post reads as follows:

“For years, every day, I sit outside and feed the animals that come around. But yesterday, while I was outside, a woman who’d only been driving for three months and said her steering was faulty, turned the corner and suddenly accelerated. I tried to move, but there was a wall behind me, so I couldn’t escape. Luckily, her right tyre burst, and she hit the wall – otherwise, I might not be here right now. Life shouldn’t be this cheap. This driver should have their licence revoked before someone else is hurt. If they’d come half a metre closer, they’d have run me over, and I wouldn’t be here now. The police asked if I wanted to report material damage – I told them I almost died, and they said they couldn’t do anything. Please, take action about this person’s licence; I was saved today, but someone else might not be so lucky. People who haven’t been through this won’t understand, but I’m holding onto life today with a renewed grip. I have so much to say, but I’m just glad to be alive. Maybe I survived because of the goodness in caring for those animals. I’m both angry and heartbroken.”
