Student driving under the influence of alcohol crashes into 3 vehicles in Lefkosa: I heard the news of my mother's death and I lost control

A 24-year-old student who crashed into three parked cars in Lefkosa on Friday night was arrested for drunk driving.

According to information from the Police Press Office, the incident happened at around 7:00 PM on Friday November 15 on Şht. Münür Street, when the driver of a vehicle, EDI, 24, a student in north Cyprus, was driving carelessly under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into the rear of a parked car in front of the İktisat Bank.

Following the accident, the same driver drove away from the scene. Upon turning into Şht. Yılmaz Yolcu Street, he collided with the front right side of a parked vehicle, in which one İlker Doğramacıoğlu, 29 was inside.

Due to the impact, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a third vehicle parked on the left side of the road. The third vehicle which was pushed backward by the collision, struck a house's garden gate, wall, and another parked vehicle located behind it.

İlker Doğramacıoğlu, who was injured as a result of the accident was taken to Lefkosa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital. He remains under observation following treatment.

During the ongoing investigation, EDI was arrested and brought to court on charges of “Drunk driving” and “Causing a Traffic Accident”.

The police requested that he should be detained for two days as investigation was continuing.

Speaking in court, the suspect said that he had heard the news of his mother's death and that he had lost control of himself because of it.
