Road fight in Kyrenia: Two minibus drivers hospitalized
Today in Kyrenia, two minibus drivers were injured in a fight that broke out over a dispute about giving way.
A dispute between two minibus drivers over yielding the right of way escalated into a fight, ending with both in the hospital.
After the incident, Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul issued a clear call for action to resolve the current problems, stressing the importance of revoking the licenses of transport operators who do not comply with the rules.
Here’s Şenkul’s statement:
*"Two minibus drivers in Kyrenia hospitalized each other over a dispute about yielding.
For 1.5 years, we’ve been waiting for the Ministry of Transport’s project to establish a proper public transportation system.
The current situation, which pits drivers against each other and negatively impacts traffic, is actually very easy to resolve.
It doesn’t take much—just revoke the licenses of two transport operators who don’t follow the rules. After that, we’ll all see whether or not the rules are followed.
To do this, all that’s needed is fairness and determination."*
