Man tries to hurt himself with a knife at a hospital in north Cyprus for not getting attention from doctors

A 43-year-old man who was angry that he was not been attended to at the Barış Mental and Nervous Diseases Hospital in north Cyprus tried to hurt himself with a knife.

The incident happened at around 10:00 AM in Lefkosa on Friday.

According to report, the individual, MFG., 43 shouted and caused a disturbance at the Barış Mental Health Hospital, claiming he was not being treated.

After showing a knife to the police officers on duty, he attempted to harm himself.

The individual in question was arrested with force and the knife seized from him.

He was brought to court on Saturday on charges of "Unlawful possession of a knife," "Disturbance," and "Improper conduct".

Police said the man shouted loudly, saying, "If I am not treated, I will cut myself," due to claims that he was not receiving treatment. He then waved his arms erratically, causing "Disturbance" and "Improper conduct."

Police said he displayed an unlawfully possessed knife to police officers on duty at the scene, and subsequently rubbed the knife against his wrist, causing a cut.

The police investigation revealed that the suspect had visited the Barış Mental Health Hospital on November 20, 21, and 22 seeking treatment and exhibited aggressive behavior, causing disturbances.

The police stated that there are surveillance footage to be reviewed and statements to be taken in connection with the matter. They requested the suspect be detained for two days to ensure the investigation proceeds smoothly.

The suspect claimed he wanted treatment, had been requesting hospitalization for three days, and did not want to use drugs.

After evaluating the testimony, the judge ordered the suspect to be detained for two days and to undergo a medical examination.
