Bank manager embezzles over 1 million Turkish Lira from bank: Suspect and wife spends loot on gambling

A bank manager and his wife were arraigned in court on Thursday for stealing millions of Turkish Lira from a bank and spending it on gambling.

The suspect named as BK who worked as a Branch Manager at a bank in Lefkoşa, and his wife Ü.U.  were brought to the Lefkosa district court on Thursday.

Police said they “stole millions of lira from the bank and spent it on gambling.”

Sharing details about the investigation in court, the police stated that the suspect named BK, who worked as a branch manager of a bank located in Köşklüçiftlik between September and November 2024, was accused of committing the crime of "Circumcision by Employee" by taking 1,220,000 TL, 185,800 GBP, 24,290 Euros, 250 Dollars and 33,350 TL cash from an ATM from the bank's account and put it into his own possession.

Police said they came to know about the matter on November 6 and the suspect was arrested on the basis of an outstanding warrant.

Police reported that the suspect, who is a bank manager, confessed in his verbal and written statement that he spent the money in question on gambling with his wife.

Stating that the investigation is ongoing, the police requested an additional day of detention for the suspects.
