75-year-old man assaults wife in north Cyprus, son retaliates

A 75-year-old man who was arrested in Kyrenia for assaulting a woman was brought to court on Wednesday.

The suspect named as M.S was arrested and brought to court on Wednesday for assault and causing grievous harm against his wife I.S.

Police said the incident happened at his residence at around 1:30 pm on Tuesday November 12 in Dağyolu.

Police said M.S. assaulted his wife by punching her in the face, causing a fracture in her cheekbone. 

Police also reported that on the same date, the man's son named as H.S. (male, 34) punched his father, in the face allegedly in retaliation for his assault on his mother, I.S. 

The officer explained that the investigation was complete and noted that the suspect had a history of similar offenses against the complainant, and had previously been placed under a restraining order. 

The officer requested that the suspect be released on a suitable bail as per the court's discretion.

The judge deemed it appropriate for the defendant, who was already on probation, to await trial in custody and ordered his detention in prison for a period not exceeding one month.
