Woman sent to prison for obtaining TRNC resident permit with fake diploma gotten from Turkey
An individual who was arrested for forging documents and using same to obtained resident permit has will be remanded in prison for 20 days until trial.
The suspect, S.M, a Turkmenistan national was arrested on September 26, 2024 in Lefkosia for using forge documents.
She was brought to the Lefkosia district court charged with the use of fake documents and was given a 3-day detention order.
She was brought back to court again on Monday September, 30.
Police officer who testified in court against the suspect said the suspect who has been married since 2018, obtained a fake bachelor's certificate from Turkey for 250 dollars on June 1, 2023, came to the TRNC and obtained a residence permit in the name of her mother, who was in north Cyprus with a work permit.
Following her arrest on September 26, 2024, the suspect confessed in her statement that she came to the country with her husband in 2023, that they started living separately because they were having problems, and that she obtained fake documents from Turkey in order to obtain a residence permit.
Police stated that during her 3-day detention period, her house was searched and the false documents she submitted to the immigration office were found.
Police said that the suspect said in her statement that she obtained the forged document at the direction of her mother. Police also stated the suspect's mother left the country on September 23.
Noting that the investigation was completed, the police stated that the suspect was in the country on a tourist visa and requested that the court sends her to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
