Woman accused of allegedly stealing hundreds of gold coins from a house she went to clean in Gönyeli
A woman who worked as a cleaner in a house has been remanded for allegedly stealing jewelries from the residence.
The suspects, J.B, a Turkmenistan national was arrested on Saturday October 5, on allegation that she stole a large amount of gold from a house she went to clean in Gönyeli.
She was brought to the Lefkosia district court on Sunday October 6 charged for theft.
Police in a court testimony said the incident happened between June 14 and October 5, 2024 when the suspect went to the residence for cleaning.
The police said that 80 quarter gold coins with a total value of 424,000 TL, 30 gram gold coins with a total value of 91,200 TL, 10 half gold coins with a total value of 106,000 TL, 20 embroidered gold coins with a total value of 16,000 TL, 4 full gold coins with a total value of 85,000 TL, a gold bracelet with a value of 50,000 TL, a diamond ring valued at 70,000 TL, a necklace with a value of 120,000 TL and 18 jewelry valued 70,000 TL, which were kept in a box inside the drawer of the wardrobe of the residence belonging to CNP were stolen by an unknown person.
The police stated that the matter was reported to the police on October 05, 2024 which led to the identification and arrest of the suspect with a pending warrant.
The complainant in a statement said the suspect had only entered the house for cleaning.
Police stated that the suspect was working in the complainant's house at the time of the crime. She left the country in August and told her employer that she would continue to work when she returned to the country but that she did not contact the complainant despite returning to the country in September.
The suspect stated in her statement that he had not gone to any jewellery store and had not seen the gold.
Stating that the investigation was ongoing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.
