Tensions rise as Israel prepares for potential strike on Iran

Fears of escalating conflict in the Middle East are mounting as Israel finalises preparations for a possible strike on Iran. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continue relentless bombing campaigns in Gaza and Lebanon, in response to heavy rocket fire from Hezbollah militants.

Following the leak of classified US documents revealing Israel’s planned retaliation against Iran, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reviewing Israel’s options. According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli Security Cabinet is set to meet this evening to discuss the situation.

Netanyahu has called for the Security Cabinet to convene at 19:30 at the Kirya military headquarters in Tel Aviv, as Israel continues its strategic preparations for a potential attack on Iran.

Netanyahu–Trump Talks

Netanyahu’s office also confirmed that he recently held a phone call with former US President Donald Trump. According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s statement, he reiterated his public stance: “Israel takes into account the concerns raised by the US administration, but will ultimately make decisions based on its national interests.”

A day after a drone strike targeted his private residence, Netanyahu publicly accused Hezbollah and Iranian agents of orchestrating the attack, vowing severe repercussions.

Iran Warns of Retaliation

In response, Tehran has issued its warnings, stating that it has identified Israeli military targets it would strike if Israel initiates an attack. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in an interview with Turkish broadcaster NTV, stated: “We will not leave any attack on Iran unanswered. Israel will face a proportionate response, and we have pinpointed all their targets.”

Araghchi highlighted concerns over any potential strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, warning that such actions would prompt immediate retaliation. “Any attack on our nuclear facilities or similar strikes will not go unanswered,” he told Al Jazeera.
