Students caught with cannabis remanded for 3 days

Two individuals who were caught with drugs in Lefkosia were remanded in custody on Friday.

The suspects, O.M and N.L, who are students in north Cyprus were arrested on the evening of Thursday October 17 during police search in Lefkosa.

The suspects were brought to the Lefkosia district court on Friday charged with “illegal possession of drugs”

Police in court testimony said during the search conducted at around 5:00pm on Thursday on the suspect O.M, who was considered a suspect by the police team affiliated to the Lefkosa police branch,  4 grams of cannabis-type drugs ready for sale and 600 TL in cash believed to be obtained from drug sales were detected in his possession and taken as evidence.

The suspect told the police that he bought 8 grams of the drug from N.L for 6,000 TL. In order to sell it, he wrapped it in 12 separate foil papers and packaged it, and sold 5 packages to a person in Lefkosia for 4,000 TL.

The suspect N.L was detected and arrested in Göçmenköy on the same day. During the search conducted on him, 28 grams of drugs were found and seized in his trouser pocket.

In a search carried out at his residence, police said they found another 12 grams of cannabis. 

Police said N.L had taken 140 grams of the drug, gave 8 grams to O.M and 92 grams to another person, and that the total of 40 grams found in his pocket and house was the remaining 140 grams he had purchased. 

O.M's house was also searched but nothing illegal was found.

The officer said there were statements to be taken, camera footage to be examined and that there are individuals wanted in connection with the matter. He also said the seized items would be sent for analysis and the wrapped packages would be sent for fingerprint examination.

The police requested that the suspects be detained for 3 days.
