Student dies in fire incident in an apartment in Haspolat, another injured

Tragedy struck early Wednesday morning when a fire incident in a building in Haspolat took the life of a Ghanaian student with another seriously injured.

The fire incident took place in an apartment building located in Hapsolat at around 3:00 am on Wednesday October 23.

According to police press statement, an occupant of the apartment, Derrick Bamfo Ampomah, 24, died in the fire incident while Jonathan Maukle Adjabeng was injured.

Police said the reason for the fire that broke out in the stairwell of the apartment is yet unknown.

Suitcases and clothes stored in the stairwell, two generators, security camera cables, 10 electrical fuses and an electrical panel, and 1 gas cylinder were burned and damaged, while the walls of the entire building were damaged due to the smoke and heat.

The fire was extinguished by the Fire Department.

Derrick Bamfo Ampomah and Jonathan Maukle Adjabeng, were taken to the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosia. Derrick died despite all effort to save him while Jonathan was taken under observation in the surgical ward.

The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
