Student arrested for stealing from a market in Ortaköy

An individual has been arrested and detained for stealing from a super market in Lefkosia.

The suspect, M.S.E.S.M, a Sudanese student in north Cyprus was arrested on the morning of Saturday October 5 for stealing grinder worth 380 TL from a market operating in Lefkosa on September, 28.

He was brought to court on Sunday October 6 charged with theft.

According to police statement on the incident, at around 3:00pm on Sept., 28, the suspect who is a resident of Lefkosia, took an OCB brand grinder worth 380 TL from the Always Market, operating in Ortaköy and left the market without paying for it.

Police stated that the incident came to the attention of the police on Saturday October 5 which led to his arrest with a pending warrant. 

The suspect's house was searched but the stolen shredder was not found, police said.

Noting that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect's legal status in the country will be investigated, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days initially.
