Passengers at Ercan Airport are made to wait for 90 minutes to get their luggage on arrival

A Turkish Cypriot politician has expressed his frustration over the time it takes for passengers at Ercan Airport to get their luggage on arrival.

Nevzat Özkunt, the Secretary General of the Communal Democracy Party (TDP), expressed his frustration after it took passengers one hour, 30  minutes to retrieve their luggage at Ercan Airport.

In a post on social media, Özkunt criticised the Istanbul Handling company, asking, “Is it fair to make people go through this? Why are only 2-3 workers handling the luggage for three planes? Did you cut their pay or are you just disorganised? If you can’t do this job, step aside and let someone who can take over. You’ve messed up such a simple task. Shame on you”.

Özkunt’s full statement is as follows:

Ercan Airport is a shame for our country, friends. We flew in from Ankara this evening and it took us an hour, but it took almost 1.5 hours for the luggage to arrive. Only 10-12 suitcases came out at a time on the conveyor belt, which then stopped for 15 minutes. This repeated delay is torture for everyone waiting and is completely unacceptable.

“Istanbul Handling, is it right for you to put people through this? Why are you only using 2-3 workers to manage the luggage for three flights? Did you lower their wages, or is it just poor organisation? If you can’t handle it, get out of the way for someone who can. You’ve messed up such an easy job. Shame on you”.
