Man remanded in custody for abusing a woman in Minareliköy

A 44-year-old man remanded in custody for two days for alleged sexual abuse of a woman in Minareliköy, north Cyprus.

The suspect, Ö.A, a Turkish national was arrested and brought to the Lefkosia distinct court on Tuesday on charges of “sexual assault” of his 31-year-old ex-girlfriend.

Police said the incident happened at around 1:30 am on Sunday October, 20 when the suspect, who lives in Minareliköy, entered the residence of his ex-girlfriend, who lives in the same place, through the open window of the residence also in Minareliköy. When inside, he physically assaulted and then sexually abused the young woman in the living room.

The suspect was arrested after the complaint was made and an investigation was launched. 

The police noted that the arrested suspect made some statements, that he had witnesses. Police said these issues would be investigated as investigation was ongoing and that there was camera footage to be examined.

The police requested that the suspect be held in detention for 3 days.
