Man on trial for killing a cat in north Cyprus
A man who was arrested for brutally killing a cat in Yarköy, north Cyprus was brought to court on Thursday.
The incident happened in Yarköy in 2023 when the suspect, M.Ş. 43 brutally killed a cat that was caught in the device he set up for foxes in the small cattle pen.
The man had posted the picture of a severely maimed dead cat to his social media in November last year and faced fierce backlash from the public. He said the cat had been “harming newborn lambs in his sheep pen”.
The incident made headlines when he shared a grotesque picture of the cat he had just killed to his social media account.
The incident came to the attention of the police on November 26, 2023, and as a result of the investigation, the person was identified and arrested.
The Turkish Cypriot police released a statement at the time saying, “after brutally killing a cat caught in a device he had prepared for foxes, he took a photograph of it and published it on his social media account.
His trial was held again on Friday at the Iskele Court.
