Man challenges police officer to a fight for telling him to behave
A local man has been remanded in custody for challenging a police officer to a duel for telling him to behave.
The incident happened at around 11:55am on Friday October 11 at the Lefkosia municipality building when the suspect named only as M.Ş, a Turkish Cypriot man who works at the municipality allegedly threatened a police chief who warned him to be more disciplined.
The suspect was taken to court on Saturday on charges of “invitation to a duel”, “disturbance” and “inappropriate behavior”.
Police in a court testimony said the suspect M.Ş, a resident of Lefkosia, approached the chief of the police department of the municipality building waving his right index finger at him. He threatened the officer shouting on top of his voice without a reasonable excuse, and behaved in a disturbing and inappropriate manner, on the grounds that the officer had previously warned him to be more disciplined within the Municipality building.
The police requested M.Ş be held in detention for more time that there are statements to be taken, camera footage that needed to be examined and environmental testimony would be taken.
The judge ordered that the suspect should be held in custody for 2 days.
