“I will kill you and not leave any traces”: Man tells girlfriend in north Cyprus

A Turkish Cypriot man who threatened to kill his girlfriend without leaving a trace has been charged with assault violence.

The incident happened at around 8:00 am on Saturday October 19 at the resident of the suspect identified with only as İ.E., 32 located in Hamitköy. The suspect who got into a fight with his girlfriend told her, “I will kill you on the ground, I am crazy, I will not leave any traces, no one can find me on you.”

He was arrested following the incident and brought to court on Monday on charges of "Threat of Violence and Serious Assault".

The police officer who testified in court against the suspect said the suspect severely assaulted his 38-year-old girlfriend by hitting her on the shoulder with a stick and her back with his hand due to an argument that broke out between them in the living room of his residence on the grounds that he wanted her to take him to work.

He then threatened to use violence against her saying, "I will kill you on the ground, I am crazy, I will not leave any marks, no one can find me on you." 

The police stated that the complainant was taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosa on the same day and a report was obtained stating that there were marks of assault and force on her body.

The police officer stated that the stick was taken as evidence, that the suspect accepted the case against him and that the investigation was completed.

The judge who evaluated the testimony released the suspect on bail on the condition that he is banned from travelling abroad until his trial, pay a cash bail of 20,000 TL, bring two reliable guarantors who are TRNC citizens to sign a bail bond worth 300,000 TL each and appear at the nearest police station as a witness once a week.
