"Either you give us this farm or we will bury you": Men arrested for illegal weapons tells man

Three men who were alleged to have engaged in the carrying of illegal weapons and threatening an individual in an incident that happened in the Değirmenlik Ağıllar District, were arrested and detained for two days on court order.

The suspects, İ.A., CK and ARS, who are all Turkish Cypriots were arrested on Tuesday October, 1 and were brought to the Lefkosia district court on Wednesday October 2 for “illegal possession of weapons and demanding property through threats”.

Police in a court statement said the suspects were arrested after receiving a complaint that they threatened one E.K with illegal firearms, the make and model of which have not yet been determined as they try to disposes him of his his large dairy farm located in the Değirmenlik Ağıllar region.

They threatened the victim saying, “Either you will give this farm or we will bury you,” .

The incident happened twice, first on on August 10, 2024 and then on September 23, 2024.

The police stated that the complaint was made on October 1, 2024, and the suspects were identified and arrested in Kyrenia on the same day. 

The police stated that the investigation had just begun and that the weapons allegedly used in the incident had not been found as there was a wanted person and camera footage to be examined.

The police requested that the suspects be detained for 2 days for investigation purposes.

Upon questions from the suspects' lawyer, the police noted that the suspects made some statements while they were being arrested.

The police stated that some of the complainant's statements matched those of the suspects, but some did not.

The suspects' lawyer said that ARS was abroad on September 23, when the second incident took place.

The police confirmed this information and noted that the complainant may have been mistaken about the dates and that they were investigating this matter.
