Drunk driver hits police and tries to escape

A Turkish Cypriot police officer was injured during traffic control early Saturday morning after he was hit by a motorist who refused to stop for check. 

The incident happened at 3:30 am on Saturday October 26 on the Güzelyurt-Lefke Ring Road in Gemikonağı area when an 18-year-old driver named only as SJ, who was driving towards Güzelyurt under the influence of alcohol refused to comply with police's "Stop" order. He hit a police officer on duty and then a parked police vehicle while trying to drive away.

The police officer who was injured in the accident was taken to Cengiz Topel Hospital for treatment and was discharged afterwards.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested, while the investigation into the incident continues.
