ATMs in Turkiye will no longer accept simple passwords
Starting next week, simple passwords will no longer be used at ATMs in Turkey. This new regulation will encourage people to choose more secure passwords.
The regulation, which was implemented to take precautions against increasing theft and fraud cases, aims to encourage customers to use more secure passwords.
The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) aims to end the use of simple password combinations, drawing attention to the fact that bad-intentioned people can easily guess these types of passwords.
With the new regulation that will come into force across Turkey as of next week, commonly used passwords such as '1923', '1453', '1903', '5353' will not be able to be used on bank and credit cards.
According to the new regulation, common number combinations such as establishment dates, province license plate codes, team dates and similar will no longer be valid. If customers use such passwords while making transactions at the ATM, the system will automatically give a warning to change the password and a secure password will be created.
This new regulation, which will be implemented throughout Türkiye, will be put into effect in all banks' ATM systems as of next week. Customers will be directed to choose more secure passwords.
