30% tax collected from minimum wage earners with work permits - TRNC member of parliament
Minimum wage earners working in businesses with a work permit have now started to pay income tax.
According to the statement by Republican Turkish Party (CTP ) Member of Parliament on social media, citizens living on minimum wage in Northern Cyprus, where life is getting more expensive every day, will pay a monthly tax of 1,180 TL.
Devrim Barçın reminded that the regulations made in 2022 only provide tax exemption for that year, Barçın said that it is wrong for government officials to constantly state that the minimum wage is exempt from tax.
Barçın, who stated that TRNC citizens are exempt from tax, noted that the income tax of 1,180 TL covers minimum wage earners with work permits. He emphasized that this situation is due to the fact that workers with work permits do not have social security premiums and reserve fund investments.
Barçın, who drew attention to the fact that minimum wage earners in business life with work permits do not have reserve fund investments, explained that for this reason, social security expenses are less and are subject to tax because premium deductions are not made.
Barçın stated that those who receive a pension of 27,587 TL and above are having difficulty making ends meet and are forced to work for minimum wage. Barçın noted that these employees pay approximately 30 percent of their salaries to the state as taxes.
Barçın, who pointed out that minimum wage earners were victimized after the incidents, emphasized that tax brackets should be arranged at the beginning of the year and that minimum wage earners who are in business life with work permits will not be victimized in the increases to be made to the minimum wage during the year. Barçın, who accused the finance administration of being incompetent, careless and unconscious, argued that those concerned did not know the legislation and stated that false information was given to the society.
