Woman arrested at Paphos airport for attempting to travel with forged passport

A woman who tried to leave Cyprus (south) via the Paphos airport with a forged passport was arrested and detained on court order.

The individual identified as an 18-year-old woman of African origin was arrested Paphos airport on Saturday afternoon when trying to leave the country.

She was taken to the Paphos District Court on Monday charged with impersonation, forgery and circulation of a forged document.

Police in its statement said the individual presented herself at the airport departures bound for another EU country with a Dutch ID card.

During the passport check, officers determined that the ID card was fake. When questioned, she confessed her true details and that she was an African national.

The judge ordered that she be held in detention for three days.
