Two students arrested for “illegal possession of drugs” in Küçük Kaymaklı

Two individual have been detained by the police after they were caught with drugs in Lefkoşa.

The suspects aged aged 26 and 29 were caught with narcotics during searches conducted by teams from the Police Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Department in Lefkoşa, on Friday Sept. 13.

Police said the suspect OME, 26, a Nigerian was arrested b teams of narcotics and Smuggling Prevention police who conducted a search on his residence at around 1:30 pm on Friday in Küçük Kaymaklı after he was found in a suspicious position in the building. 

During the search approximately 300 milligrams of synthetic cannabinoids and approximately 300 milligrams of what is believed to be methamphetamine were detected and taken as evidence.

He was taken to court on Saturday on charges of “taking and possessing illegal drugs.

Police stated that the suspect gave a voluntary statement that he bought the drugs to smoke them and that he was only a user. 

Police said the seized substances would be sent for analysis and the wrapped packages would be sent for fingerprint examination.

Police said the suspect's residence status and who provided the drugs will be investigated and requested that he be detained for 3 days.

In a similar incident, at around 2:00pm on the same day, a second suspect, PCA, 29, a Nigerian was arrested after police teams conducted a search on his vehicle after he was found suspicious. 

Police said approximately 300 milligrams of a substance believed to be a synthetic cannabinoid type drug and 1,500 TL in cash believed to be obtained from the sale of drugs were found in his possession which were taken as evidence.

Police said the suspect tried to escape while being taken to the Narcotics Department but was caught a short time later in Yenişehir. 

Subsequently, 52 separate packages of 15 grams of Synthetic Cannabinoid type drugs were found ready for sale in a search carried out at his residence on Şehit Rossu Street. They were taken as evidence.

He was taken to court on Saturday on charges of  “taking, possessing and giving illegal drugs”.

Police said the suspect stated in his statement that he bought the drugs in 56 packages from a person in Gönyeli on Sept 12 for 16,800 TL and sold 300 milligrams of them to a person for 1,500 TL.

Noting that the investigation has just begun, police said the seized substance will be sent for analysis and the wrapped packages will be sent to the fingerprint examination department. The police also said that there are 2 wanted people and requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.

Upon the prosecutor's question, the police said that they would investigate the suspect's residence status and that he had stated in his statement that he was unemployed.
