Three Syrian refugees who entered north Cyprus illegally from South Cyprus detained for three days
Authorities in north Cyprus said it detained three refugees for entering north Cyprus from the south illegally.
The refugees, including two adult male and one female along with 4 children who are all Syrians were found at around 11:00pm on Saturday September, 28 in the village of Güvercinlik in Famağusta.
Police said they crossed from Southern Cyprus to Northern Cyprus illegally when they were detected.
The three arrested Syrian refugees were brought before the Military Court in Lefkosia on Sunday.
Police told the court that at around 11:00pm on September 28, 2024, in Güvercinlik-Gazimağusa, at a location yet to be determined, Hafiz El-Khaleef, Imad El Yasin, Afra Hasan Barakat, Abdullah Hossam Al-Muhanna, ShaimaHossam Al-Muhanna, along with 4 children, one 2, one 5, one 6 and one 7 years old, secretly entered and violated the First Degree Military Prohibited Zone when they crossed from Southern Cyprus to Northern Cyprus.
They were detected and arrested in the village of Güvercinlik on the same date.
Stating that the investigation has just begun, the police requested that the suspects be detained for three days.
