Three individuals arrested for living in north Cyprus illegally sent to prison for 20 days
Three individuals who were arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit were sent to prison for 20 days until trial.
The suspects, AU, a Pakistani, MU, a Turkish and FD, a Malian were identified and arrested by a team of patrol in Demirhan on September 21, 2024 after they were deemed suspicious.
They were brought to court on charges of illegal residency.
Police said during the immigration check, the suspect MU was determined to had lived in the north of Cyprus without a residence permit for 3,476 days since March 17, 2015, and AU for 175 days since March 3, 2024.
The third suspect, FD who was summoned to the police station at around 9:30am on September 25, 2024, was found to have been in the country without a residence permit for 1,031 days since November 31, 2021.
Stating that the investigation was completed, the police requested that all three suspects face trial while in custody.
The judge ordered that the suspects be sent to prison for a term not exceeding 20 days.
