Man detained for 8 days for buying and selling canabis

An individual who was found to be in possession of drugs in Lefkosia has been remanded in prison for eight days for the purpose of investigation.

The suspect, M.A.O, a Pakistan national was arrested by the police at around 6:00pm on Sept. 26 after drug was found at his residence in Hamitköy following a search carried out by teams from the Crime Prevention Branch of the Lefkosia Police Department.

The suspect was taken to court on charges of drug possession.

Police in a court statement said during a search conducted at the residence in Hamitköy, approximately 23 grams of a substance believed to be a cannabis-type drug, one rolled cigarette believed to contain cannabis-type drugs mixed with tobacco, a precision scale believed to have drug residue on it, and 910 USD, 150 Euros, 70 STG and 16,700 TL in cash believed to be obtained from the sale of drugs were found and taken as evidence. 

The police stated that the suspect confessed in his statement that he bought the drugs from a black person whose name he did not know for 500 Euros. 

Noting that the investigation was ongoing and that there were statements to be taken, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 8 days.
