Student caught with drugs released on bail: Admits guilt and apologizes
An individual who was found with drugs and arrested by the police apologized for his crime following his release on bail.
The suspect, E.O.M, a 26-year old graduate student in north Cyprus was arrested by teams of narcotics and Smuggling Prevention police who conducted a search on his residence in Küçük Kaymaklı at around 1:30 pm on Friday Sept. 13 after he was found in a suspicious position in the building.
During the search, approximately 333 milligrams of synthetic cannabinoid drug and approximately 89 milligrams of methamphetamine were detected and taken as evidence.
Police stated that the suspect gave a voluntary statement that he bought the drugs to smoke them and that he was only a user.
He was taken to court on Saturday Sept. 14 on charges of “taking and possessing illegal drugs. He was detained for 3 days.
He was brought back to court again on Sept. 17 and also detained for another 3 days for more investigation to be carried out on the matter.
He was brought back to court again for the third time on Saturday Sept. 21 with a request for bail.
Police said part of the investigation that the suspect could influence was completed during this period and stated that the suspect accepted the charges brought against him for drug taking and possession and that he admitted his guilt and apologized.
Police said the suspect is a graduate student, actively attending school, and had no criminal record, and requested that he be released on bail with a guarantee.
The judge released the suspect on bail on the condition that he is banned from leaving the country until his trial, pay a cash bail of 30,000 TL, sign a personal surety bond of 200,000 TL and report to the nearest police station 4 days a week.
