Student arrested on return to north Cyprus for exam malpractice almost one year after the incident

Just when you thought you have heard the worst of happenings in north Cyprus, another mind blowing situation just pop up as this is the case with a student who was arrested on his return to the country for having another impersonate him in an exam in 2023.

The individual at the center of this event, A.B.R, a Nigerian student in north Cyprus was arrested on a pending warrant against him at Ercan Airport on Sunday Sept. 22, 2024 on his return to the country.

He was taken to the Lefkosia district court on Monday charged with document forgery.

Police told the court that the incident happened at a university in Haspolat on November, 6, 2023.

According to police, A.B.R paid one O.O.O, also a Nigerian to take the tourism research methods exam in his place and made him sign in his place. 

Police said O.O.O had committed the crime of document forging when he signed the exam paper and attendance list.

Police said that O.O.O was arrested after the incident came to the attention of the police on November, 13, 2023 and the attendance list and examination paper signed by him were taken as evidence.

Police stated that a warrant was issued against A.B.R as he was found to have left the TRNC on October, 20, 2023.

The police requested that A.B.R be detained for a period of two days for the purpose  of investigation.
