Student arrested for drug dealing sent to prison for two months

A student who was caught with drugs in his possession in an incident that took place in Küçük Kaymaklı, has been sent to prison for a period not exceeding 2 months until trial due to flight risk.

The suspect identified as P.C.A, 29, a student in north Cyprus was arrested on Friday Sept. 13. after he was caught with drugs following a search carried out on his vehicle by a team of police in Küçük Kaymaklı.

Police said at around 2:00pm on Sept. 13, the suspect, was found with approximately 300 milligrams of a substance believed to be a synthetic cannabinoid type drug and 1,500 TL in cash believed to be obtained from the sale of drugs which were taken as evidence.

Police said the suspect tried to escape while being taken to the Narcotics Department but was caught a short time later in Yenişehir. 

Subsequently, 52 separate packages of 15 grams of Synthetic Cannabinoid type drugs were found ready for sale in a search carried out at his residence on Şehit Rossu Street. They were taken as evidence.

He was taken to the Lefkosa district court charged with “taking, possessing and distributing illegal drugs and synthetic cannabinoids”.

Police said the suspect stated in his statement that he bought the drugs in 56 packages from a person in Gönyeli on Sept 12 for 16,800 TL and sold 300 milligrams of them to a person for 1,500 TL. 

He was brought back to court again on Wednesday Sept 25 for the third time.

Police told the court that the suspect was enrolled in a university but was found to have not attended school since February 2024 and that he had been in the country for 4 and a half years but had not graduated from any school.

Recalling that the suspect had also tried to escape on the day of the incident, the police requested that he be held in custody until his trial.

The judge ordered that the suspect be sent to prison for a term not exceeding 2 months.
