Ridiculous as driver fined over 30,000 TL for throwing sunflower seeds on the road

Anything can get you fined or jailed in north Cyprus if you get caught. Just make sure you don't get caught.

A man sitting in a black BMW with a personalised registration plate who was caught on camera on Sunday, cracking sunflower seeds and throwing the shells out of his car’s window on the road on the Gönyeli round about while waiting at a traffic light has been fined by the Gönyeli-Alayaköy Municipality.

With the video generating reactions on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Gönyeli-Alayaköy Municipality swung into action, summoning the driver to a local police station in cooperation with the Turkish Cypriot police and issuing him with a fine.

The driver Furkan Bozan, was fined 33, 926 TL.

Speaking after the incident, mayor Huseyin Amcaoglu said his municipality “will definitely not tolerate such situations”.

“While the cleanliness of our environment and our roads is our responsibility, everyone must also do their bit to keep the place clean,” he said.
