Northern Cyprus government cancels deportation orders issues against 27 people
The decision was published in the Official Gazette on Friday.
The decision to cancel the deportation orders and/or entry bans of 27 people is to ensure family ties and integrity in the TRNC.
According to the decision, it was stated that 27 people will be able to enter the country on condition that they pay the fines incurred due to visa overstaying.
During
the period when the deportation of the African Abubakar Uthman, known
as the “walking man”, was being discussed, the government made an
amendment to the Foreigners and Immigration Law and added a small
article, making a regulation that would be considered an “amnesty” for
those who had a deportation decision against them.
Reacting to the decision, Turkish Cypriot daily, Yeniduzen noted that among the 27 people who were allowed to return to the island on the grounds of “ensuring family unity”, there is also a person wanted by Interpol on charges of “extortion”. Moreover, the person in question was declared a “prohibited immigrant” by the same government approximately 1.5 months ago.
Some of the names deemed “appropriate” to return are those who were tried and expelled as a result of their involvement in “violent” incidents.
