Northern Cyprus announces new minimum wage of 35,180 TL

The government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has announced a new minimum wage of 35,180 TL net.

The new minimum wage determined by the Wage Commission was announced on Wednesday September 18 and took effect as of September 1, 2024.

Announcing the new minimum wage, Minister of Labor and Social Security, Sadık Gardiyanoğlu said the new minimum wage is 35,180 TL net and 40,436 TL gross.

While the previous minimum wage was 29,516 TL net, it was increased by 19 percent in line with the cost of living, to 35,180 TL.

The minister explained that the cost of living in the last four months was 19.99 percent and that this figure would be reflected on public employees, retirees and those receiving state aid; similarly, this rate was reflected on the minimum wage and the new figure was determined.

Gardiyanoğlu pointed out that there is a ten-day objection period and said, "If there is an objection within 10 days, we will set up the table again and evaluate it."

Gardiyanoğlu said that they will send the new figure to the Council of Ministers.

"This was our busy schedule for today's meeting of the Council of Ministers," said Gardiyanoğlu, adding that they discussed the cost of living to be given to those receiving public salaries and aid.
